Lets just say we are using 120vac household voltage in this diagram. Below is a picture of a few simple ladder wiring diagrams to help explain what i am talking about.

What is l1 and l2 on a wiring diagram. The n stands for the neutral or grounded. If white is used in a house as l1 then it should be used that way throughout. Also you should know that the main lines are marked l1 l2 and n. L1 and l2 stand for line 1 and line 2. So as you can see l1 goes down into a normally closed stop switch. L1 is hot and l2 is neutral.
This means the current travels through that switch until it sees an open switch and cannot go any further. L1 is black or the hot wire and l2 is white or the netural wire. L1 l2 com wiring diagram wiring diagram is a simplified suitable pictorial representation of an electrical circuitit shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes and the capability and signal links along with the devices. L1 black the first hot line l2 white neutral or the second hot line l3 red the third hot line green ground or communicationcontrol wire bare copper ground i think the most important thing is consistency. If a diagram has just l1 and n then the circuit is 110v if the diagram has l1 and l2 then it is a 240 circuit and if it has l1 l2 and n it is a 110 220v circuit. These are the two incoming hot legs of a single phase 220v electrical supply as is typical for residences.
